For the collection of the spider specimens we used 3 methods following international acknowledged and standardized sampling protocols (after Coddington, 1991), adapted by our needs:
- Pitfall traps for measuring the activity based density of ground spiders, 10 traps per plot, set up for one week.
- Handsampling at night for nocturnal ground & low vegetation spiders with 3 persons, one doing “looking up” from the knee upwards and two doing “looking down” from the soil surface to the height of the knee.
- Entomological beating tray for catching vegetation bounded diurnal spiders during day time with 3 persons for 1 hour, 20 beats on different localities within the study plots make 1 sample.
